Arriving at a school where everything seems to be in English can be overwhelming. As an ELD student, it is easy to feel lost, confused, and even out of place. However, finding a program like DLA can completely change that experience.
If I could write a letter to my younger self before entering the DLA program, I would tell myself not to be afraid. At first, the idea of taking classes in Spanish while learning English sounds complicated, even impossible. It may seem like instead of helping, it would make things even harder. But the reality is very different.
Being part of ELD and DLA has led me to experience new opportunities that I never imagined. This program became a source of support in an environment where everything was new to me. It allowed me to adapt little by little, explore new ideas, and develop confidence in my abilities. Instead of holding me back, the DLA program pushed me to improve. Not only did I learn more English, but I also strengthened my Spanish, achieving a balance that I now consider one of my greatest strengths.
Not all ELD students have the opportunity to be part of this program, and that is something I truly value. Within DLA, I have had the opportunity to excel academically in Spanish, which has been a very important part of my personal and academic growth.
Another fundamental aspect of the program is its teachers. The DLA program has excellent educators who truly make a difference. For example, Mrs. López, who teaches World History and U.S. History, teaches with discipline and commitment, motivating her students to give their very best. Likewise, Mrs. Rodríguez, who teaches Spanish 4H, AP Spanish and Journalism, has contributed to one of the greatest advancements in our school by encouraging students to produce high-quality work.
Thanks to teachers like them, the program not only focuses on language learning, but also on developing critical, responsible students who are prepared for the future.
The DLA program is not just an academic program; it is an opportunity. An opportunity to grow, to learn, and to discover new ways of thinking. Without a doubt, it is a key part of our school and community, and its impact goes far beyond the classroom.
Llegar a una escuela donde todo parece estar en inglés puede ser abrumador. Como estudiante de ELD, es fácil sentirse perdido, confundido y hasta fuera de lugar. Sin embargo, encontrar un programa como DLA puede cambiar completamente esa experiencia.
Si pudiera escribirle una carta a mi yo antes de entrar al programa de DLA, le diría que no tenga miedo. Al principio, la idea de tomar clases en español mientras se aprende inglés suena complicada, incluso imposible. Parece que en lugar de ayudar, podría dificultar más las cosas. Pero la realidad es muy diferente.
Ser parte de ELD y DLA me ha llevado a vivir nuevas experiencias que nunca imaginé. Este programa fue una salvación en un entorno donde todo era nuevo para mí. Me permitió adaptarme poco a poco, explorar nuevas ideas y desarrollar confianza en mis habilidades. En lugar de atrasarme, el programa DLA me impulsó a mejorar. No solo aprendí más inglés, sino que también perfeccioné mi español, logrando un equilibrio que ahora considero una de mis mayores fortalezas.
No todos los estudiantes de ELD tienen la oportunidad de formar parte de este programa, y eso es algo que realmente valoro. Dentro del DLA, he tenido la oportunidad de destacar en mi nivel académico en español, lo cual ha sido una experiencia muy importante en mi crecimiento personal y académico.
Otro aspecto fundamental del programa son sus maestros. El programa DLA cuenta con excelentes educadores que realmente marcan la diferencia. Por ejemplo, la señora López, quien imparte historia del mundo e historia de los Estados Unidos, enseña con disciplina y compromiso, motivando a sus estudiantes a dar lo mejor de sí. Asimismo, la señora Rodríguez, quien imparte español 4H, español AP y periodismo, ha contribuido a uno de los mayores avances en nuestra escuela, impulsando un trabajo de alta calidad por parte de los estudiantes.
Gracias a maestros como ellos, el programa no solo se enfoca en el aprendizaje del idioma, sino también en la formación de estudiantes críticos, responsables y preparados para el futuro.
El programa de DLA no es solo un programa académico, es una oportunidad. Una oportunidad para crecer, para aprender y para descubrir nuevas formas de pensar. Sin duda, es un elemento clave en nuestra escuela y en la comunidad, y su impacto va mucho más allá del salón de clases.
