On February 22, 2026, Nemesio “El Mencho” Osegura Cervantes, head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, was assassinated by Mexican forces. This operation was aided by the U.S. military in gathering intelligence for the assassination.
The killing of “EL Mencho” has caused much distress in Mexico as the Cartel has gone on rampages due to the killing of their leader. A wave of violence has occurred in 20 Mexican states, which led to the U.S. issuing a shelter-in-place order for U.S citizens in affected areas such as Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara. In some cities, cartel members set automobiles on fire to produce traffic, while in others, they set dozens of banks and businesses on fire. According to the BBC, “In Guadalajara – one of the host cities of the forthcoming Fifa World Cup – travellers at the airport could be seen running and crouching on the floor in panic. The panic spread when a group came running into the airport to seek shelter after they had heard gunshots ring out from the nearby highway.”

To know more about the topic, I interviewed a Mexican Citizen Froylan Ocampo, who resides in Guerrero. He states, “It won’t affect me too much since the events are happening in other states, but I do think it could affect me, perhaps because violence might break out around my municipality or some supplies might increase in price.”
But what does this mean for the U.S and Mexico? Currently, as of February 23, the cartel is still sending violent waves in Mexico. President Trump recently issued the CJNG (Jalisco New Generation Cartel) as a foreign terrorist organization. Mexico’s current political state could lead to more racism and discrimination here in the U.S. President Trump’s ICE raids could also increase due to wanting to deport Mexican citizens, which would stem from racist ideologies. All of this causes more injustices and prejudices here in the U.S. towards the Immigrant Community.

I feel a strong connection to your article regarding the killing EI Mencho. I specifically related to the part where you described how the killing of EL Mencho has caused much distress in Mexico as the Cartel has gone due to killing their leader. This was powerful because the new rules that America made were most disagreed for everyone and this is making a whole protest go on because Trump stated a Rule that if your born in the United States your a American Citizen but if your not born in America your gonna be deported back where your coming from. I think this article readed well because this is considered really racist what is Donald Trump is doing even America puts up there is Justice for all, when Trump is Deporting everyone

When I first read it, I felt sad and mad about why the U.S plays a role in the elimination of “El Mencho, In february 22, 2026, The Killing of “El Mencho” caused so much stress in Mexico that cause’s them aware of the El Mencho and even this could affect around Municipality or some supplies might increase in price. This could lead to racism and discrimination here in the U.S., which would also cause more injustices and prejudices. I think this is well written in the article.
