We all might think that when getting on a plane, we are safe and all doors/windows are closed. Well, that wasn’t the case for flight 1282 to Southern California from Portland. It was a scare in the air. Alaska Airlines had an incident on Friday, January 5th causing the cabin panel to fly off. Yes, you read right, the cabin panel flew off, and caused some passengers to panic when oxygen masks fell off the ceiling. No injuries were reported.
The panel ended up making a hole in the plane. Which concluded in an emergency landing in Portland, Oregon. The scare was reported as an “incident this evening soon after departure,” said Alaska Airlines. A passenger on the flight reported that everything was okay at the beginning of the flight however, there was a huge “Boom” which woke everyone up with oxygen masks falling from the ceiling. Also, passenger Elizabeth Lee had this to say, “I looked to my left and there’s this huge chunk of the airplane missing …Part of the airplane is missing, and the wind just was extremely loud. There’s wind blowing everywhere.”
While the airline hasn’t provided much information on why the door panel fell off, we know that this plane hasn’t been in service very long. Alaska Airlines had just gotten the plane back in November, with only 8 flights, the plane decided to eject its door. Therefore, next time you book a flight anywhere in the world, make sure that the plane doesn’t have a cabin panel about to fly off.
