On Thursday, October 21, 2021 art club hosted their Dia de Los Muertos art show. After about a month of planning, the dedication, hard work, and time put into it paid off. It was a beautiful way to remember those who we have lost through the years, especially fellow loved ones due to Covid-19. Mrs. Spandikow, the art club advisor, mentions how she came up with this idea to promote the arts. They collaborated with the VAPA departments to make the night special. The students’ creativity and interest and their civic & community engagement made the event a success.

Jose Gomez, president of the art club, alongside other fellow cabinet members were of great help. For everything to come together, everyone chose to join the committee they most enjoyed; For example, the drawing and painting committee. Mr. Rivas’ students in the photography class submitted pictures they had taken and were put on the gallery wall that day. Mr. Rivas as well helped set up the sound system that day. The photo club that day had a photo booth for those who wanted a picture for memories.

One of the fellow art club members mentioned that they began to set up right after school that day and how it was pretty stressful. The Dia de Los Muertos art show began at 5:30 pm with food, and people slowly arrived. Clubs like Bros, Project Say, Photo Club, Bilingual Ambassadors, and the Art Club showed their support by showing up and helping. The performances began at about 6:00 pm. The ones to perform that day were Dance 3, advanced theater, Las Tres Letras

(guitar group) Grupo Folklorico from Project Say, and solo performances by Michael Cortez, Odila Dimas, Brittany Roldan, and Simmer Dhiman.

It was a lovely night with alters, artwork, performances, and food as the night got darker, and many turned on the flashlights from their phones as the singers sang beautifully. The night ended around 8:30 pm. It was a lovely art show to remember and honor loved ones and to enjoy with family.
