President-elect Joe Biden blamed President Donald Trump for the violence on Capitol Hill this past Wednesday, January 6th; Biden denounced that the attackers who breached the security of Congress and stormed the U.S. Capitol building as “domestic terrorists.”

Those who congregated on Capitol Hill were Trump supporters whose intent was to disrupt a joint session of Congress that was certifying Joe Biden’s election victory over Trump. “ Don’t dare call them protesters. They were a riotous mob – insurrectionists, domestic terrorists. It’s that basic, it’s that simple. “ said Biden during an event at The Queen Theater in Wilmington, Delaware, according to a video of Biden’s speech that was filmed by the AP. The violent protesters were incited by Donald Trump, who argued that he lost the election due to voter fraud, with no evidence to support these claims. His claims have been dismissed in the courts, including the Supreme Court, members of his own administration, and by state election officials of both parties.

The hundreds of Trump supporters who stormed into the Capitol roamed the halls in search of lawmakers and forced the complex to go into lockdown; the lawmakers, as well as Vice President Mike Pence, were forced to stop the certification process and seek safety. According to the Associated Press, the Capitol’s breach also brought questions about the overall security of Capitol Hill and lawmakers to demand a review of operations. The President-elect also spoke about the differences in the police treatment of the Trump supporters that stormed Capitol Hill versus that of Black Lives Matter protesters, which had National Guard troops on the Capitol Building’s steps.

Joe Biden also called out Trump during the riot and said, “ Therefore I call on President Trump to go on national television now to fulfill his oath and defend the Constitution, and demand an end to this siege. President Trump, step up”, according to CNBC. Vice President-elect Kamala Harris also spoke on the difference between BLM Protesters and Trump supporters treatments.
