El 25 de febrero de 2026, los estudiantes de Anaheim High School en las clases de español de la Señora Rodríguez y la Señora Jaime, y las clases de francés de Madame Velasco fueron a una excursión a las escuelas primarias Westmont y Price. Esto se ha convertido en una tradición anual que comenzó hace unos años con la Señora Rodríguez, y antes de eso con la Señora Lee. Les brinda a los estudiantes bilingües la oportunidad de desarrollar su creatividad y practicar la literatura en español. El propósito era motivar a ambos niveles de grado a leer de una manera divertida e interesante. Hoy aprenderemos más sobre esta excursión, la maravillosa experiencia que fue y uno de los efectos positivos que puede tener en la vida de los estudiantes.
Esta oportunidad permitió que los estudiantes interactúen con los alumnos más pequeños, permitiéndoles ser modelos a seguir y tener una influencia positiva en los más jóvenes de nuestra comunidad. Actividades como esta ayudan a los estudiantes a apreciar el idioma y la cultura española mientras también desarrollan confianza en sus habilidades de lectura y comunicación. Además, los estudiantes participaron en actividades que los animaron a interactuar con los libros y la narración de historias de una manera creativa; esto les permitió ver que la lectura puede ser divertida y no solo algo que se hace para una tarea en clase. Una de las participantes, Khloe Chavez, dice, “Fue una experiencia muy bonita en general; todos fueron muy amables y agradecidos. Definitivamente volvería a ir si tuviera la oportunidad. Disfruté mucho poder hablar y conocer a los diferentes niños y saber cuáles eran sus intereses.”
Otro beneficio importante del viaje es cómo ayuda a fortalecer la conexión de los estudiantes con su idioma y su cultura. Para muchos estudiantes bilingües, el español es una parte importante de su identidad y de su vida familiar. Experiencias como esta les recuerdan a los estudiantes que su idioma es valioso y algo de lo que pueden sentirse orgullosos. También les muestra que la literatura en español tiene muchas historias, ideas y perspectivas que valen la pena explorar. Felicia dice, “Me hizo sentir más conectada con mi cultura y me mostró cómo una comunidad puede unirse.”
En general, esta excursión fue una experiencia excelente y memorable para los estudiantes de Anaheim High School y de las escuelas primarias Westmont y Price. Les dio a los estudiantes la oportunidad de aprender más sobre el idioma, la cultura y la literatura fuera del salón de clases. Esta excursión ayudó a los estudiantes de AHS a entender las tareas y las técnicas que necesitan mejorar para la próxima vez que participen en este viaje. Además, experiencias como esta ayudan a los estudiantes a apreciar el valor de la educación y su identidad cultural. Debido a lo significativa y agradable que fue la excursión, muchos estudiantes ya esperan con entusiasmo participar nuevamente el próximo año.
On February 25, 2026, the Anaheim High School students in Ms. Rodriguez and Ms. Jaime’s Spanish classes, along with Madame Velasco’s French classes, went on a field trip to Westmont and Price Elementary. This has become an annual tradition, started a few years ago by Ms. Rodriguez, and even before that by Ms. Lee. It provides bilingual students with an opportunity to develop their creativity and practice Spanish literature. The purpose is to motivate both grade levels to read in a fun and engaging way. Today we will learn more about this field trip, the wonderful experience it was, and one of the positive effects it can have on the students’ lives.
This opportunity allows students to engage with the younger students, allowing them to be role models and to have a positive influence on the younger ones in our community. Activities like this help students appreciate the Spanish language and culture while also building confidence in their reading and communication skills. Additionally students participated in activities that encouraged them to interact with books and storytelling in a creative way, this allowed them to see that reading can be enjoyable and not just seen as something done for an assignment in class. One of the students, Khloe Chavez says, “It was such a nice experience overall everyone was so welcoming and appreciative. I think that I most definitely would go again if given the chance. I really enjoyed being able to talk and get to know the different kids and what their interests were.”
Another important benefit of the trip is how it helps strengthen the students’ connection to their language and culture. For many bilingual students, Spanish is an important part of their identity and family life. Experiences like this remind students that their language is valuable and something to be proud of. It also shows them that Spanish literature has many stories, ideas, and perspectives worth exploring. Felicia says, “It made me feel more connected to my culture and showed me how a community can come together.”
Overall, this field trip was a great and memorable experience for the students from Anaheim High School and the elementary schools, Westmont and Price. It gave students the opportunity to learn more about language, culture, and literature outside of the classroom. This field trip helped the high schoolers from AHS to understand the task and techniques they need to improve on to be better for the next time we go on this field trip. On top of that, experiences like this help students appreciate the value of education and their cultural identity. Because of how meaningful and enjoyable the trip was, many students are already looking forward to participating in it again next year.
