As Anaheim High School celebrates its 125th anniversary, a tradition that speaks to pride and history is about to unfold. The time capsule was buried 25 years ago. It is ready to be buried again, to continue a unique and significant tradition for the school. Anaheim High School holds a place in the hearts of generations of alumni, students and community members.

 Founded in 1898, the school has stood the test of time, showing the growth and evolution of both the school and the community it serves. As the school celebrates its 125-year anniversary, the time capsule captures the essence of this progress. The time capsule preserves memories of the past while including the present. Anaheim High School administrators, alumni, and students gathered to unearth the time capsule which was buried 25 years ago. The excitement of administrators, alumni and students when the articles were revealed was something that touched many hearts, as well as a trip back in time for all alumni and administrators. 

Found in the time capsule were photos, letters, memorabilia, and a photo of Anaheim High School in the late 20th century. The act of unearthing a time capsule is more than just an extracurricular thing; It is a testament to the pride and tradition within the school’s culture.

Claudia Ruiz-Flores, an assistant principal at Anaheim High School, tells us that although it was her first year at Anaheim, she felt “something very emotional for the school and the community of Anaheim.” The items found among the time capsule tell us a story of what the past and the spirit of Anaheim was like. This tradition has a sense of community, bringing together present, past and future generations who share a legacy. Current Principal of Anaheim High School, Ruben Calleros, shared, “I am excited to come back for the next time capsule unveiling and continue to be a part of the amazing history and legacy that Anaheim has to offer.”

On February 9, the time capsule was buried for the second time, symbolizing the commitment to preserving the school’s history for the next 25 years. This act not only honors the past but sets the stage for the school’s next celebration. In 2048, the time capsule will be unearthed again, revealing Anaheim High School in the 21st century, celebrating 150 years of excellence and tradition at Anaheim High School. The time capsule tradition at Anaheim High School serves as a living archive and captures the school’s timeless essence. With each burial and revelation, the Anaheim community becomes stronger in tradition and pride. As the 125-year anniversary unfolds and the time capsule returns to earth, the legacy continues.
