On August 29th, the question on everyone’s mind was if the Anaheim Colonists would finally break their losing streak? Under the new leadership of starting quarterback Fabian Guiterrez, Thursday was a foresight as to what might or might not be to come in the season. The pressure is immense for this year’s team to shine. The question is, will they shine?

On August 29th, at Glover Stadium the Anaheim Colonists football team faced the La Quinta Aztecs at 7 pm to see who would clinch their first win of the season. Many fans of both teams were ecstatic to see this match unravel, but doubts were very high for the Colonists.

Due to their previous record last season, some fans were skeptical about how this “new team” of theirs would perform. Many questions arose, “will this finally be the year we do well?” or “will this just be another repeat year of last year.”

With plenty of fresh talent on the roster now, fans’ hopes are skyrocketing. The only problem with fresh talent is being they are so new, it is going to be interesting to see how they play, how they will be able to adapt to the playstyle of La Quinta and use their speed and agility to blaze past the competition. Also not to forget that being new means a lot more pressure on you, because people look at you and have higher expectations of you. The question is, will these rookies be able to deal with the amount of pressure they have riding on them this season?

After a rough start to the beginning of the first quarter, our Anaheim Colonists managed to get the ball moving and pulled together their first win of the entire season. They are starting off the season strong with a 42-14 win against the La Quinta Aztecs, scoring most of the points in the 3rd and 4th quarter. With a total of 7 touchdowns scored between the two teams, fans were excited to get some action that night. “It felt amazing to see everyone come together as one and cheer for our team” – Karissa Casas Grade 11.

“I thought the football game was a phenomenal start to a promising season. I thought the players seemed organized, well-trained, and exhibited talent. I’m so excited for the next game!” Samuel Magaña Grade 11. “It was an emotional rollercoaster because at first we were down 14-0 and came back strong the second quarter” Armando Hernandez Grade 11. Overall, according to fans at the game, the team appears to be promising with a great start to the new season. Hopefully, the team can keep this energy going throughout the rest of the season and probably make it to CIF and break this losing streak Anaheim has brutally suffered.

Unfortunately, the high hopes shortlived.  On September 6th, the Colonists faced Rancho Alamitos and suffered a devastating loss of 37-0.

The Bell Game takes place this Friday, September 13th at Western High School.  This third game should give us an accurate measure of what is to come.
