As we enter the final weeks of school, we are beginning to approach AP testing. This is a monumental time for both AP students and AP teachers as the hard work from the entire school year slowly begins to pay off. AP students spend countless hours studying, reviewing, and learning in hopes of getting a five on the AP tests coming up in early May. AP teachers do the best they can do to prepare their students for the AP tests coming up. Across different subjects, teachers each have a different way of reviewing material and ensuring that their students are prepared for the tests in May. As AP students, we understand the effort that teachers put in to make sure their students are getting the best out of the class. Whether that is packets, practice tests on AP classroom, mock exams, or just in-class work, we know that both teachers and students are ready for what is coming in May. We asked AP teachers and students to share their insights on what the AP tests and reviewing the tests are like for them.
We got insight from Mrs. Gamboa, who is the AP US History teacher at Anaheim, Annabelle Cheely, an AP Spanish Language student, and Chimena Nzerem, an AP English Language, APUSH, and AP Physics 1 student. Each perspective has had its own experience teaching or taking an AP class.
We first interviewed Mrs Gamboa and asked, “So, what is something that you always do to prepare your students for the AP test?”
She replied with, “Give them review packets, give them mock tests, and remind them constantly to practice, to watch videos, AP classroom.” Then we asked, “What is something that, like, you look forward to your students getting out of being able to take the APUSH test?” She answered, “That they’re learning the historical skills that they’re… thinking about their claim, their thesis, but obviously defending it with an argument. It’s what I always say. The sky is blue, the sky is red. As long as you can defend your argument, then that is what you are learning in my class, the skill.”
As an APUSH student, I know personally that Mrs. Gamboa works hard to ensure her students’ success in this test. One unique thing about her class is that she has students complete weekly packets to complete. These AMSCO packets go over an entire chapter and provide students with valuable information that they need to know on the APUSH test.
Next, we interviewed Annabelle Cheely. Annabelle is a sophomore who is currently taking AP Spanish Language. This is her first AP class, but she plans to take more next year. We know she’s doing great and has success in everything she does.
When asked, “What are you most looking forward to when taking your AP exam, and how do you feel you have prepared for this test?” She replied, “The thing I am most looking forward to is my essay, actually, because I feel very confident and prepared for it. I have prepared for this in class because we do a part of the exam almost every day, so I know what to do and how to do it.”
We wish Annabelle the best of luck on her AP test and know she will ace that test as she has been working hard all year and is prepared to take on this next step!
Then, we interviewed Chimena Nzerem. Chimena is a junior who is currently enrolled in three AP’s. As a past AP student herself, she knows a thing or two about taking these tests and is an incredible student. We asked, “How do you feel studying for multiple AP exams, and is there any one exam you are most looking forward to?” She replied, “It feels sort of overwhelming because sometimes I’m not even sure where to start when studying. I’m looking forward to AP Lang because I think it’s my strongest subject, and I really feel like I get to express myself through the prompts that have been given so far, and I’m hoping I get to do that for the test.”
We know that Chimena will do incredibly well in all of her exams. She is a diligent student who has taken the time to study and learn about each topic throughout this year!
Overall, as AP tests begin next week, we know our AHS students will do amazing! Our teachers have spent countless hours preparing and teaching these subjects, and our students have spent countless hours learning, studying, and gaining the knowledge to pass these tests. We wish all AP students good luck as the AP test season begins!
Al adentrarnos en las últimas semanas del año escolar, comenzamos a acercarnos a los exámenes AP. Este es un momento importante para los estudiantes y para los profesores de los cursos AP, ya que el trabajo duro realizado a lo largo de todo el año escolar comienza, poco a poco, a enseñar. Los estudiantes AP dedican incontables horas a estudiar, repasar y aprender, con la esperanza de obtener una calificación de cinco en los exámenes AP que tendrán lugar a principios de mayo. Por su parte, los profesores AP hacen todo lo que está a su alcance para preparar a sus alumnos para estas pruebas inminentes. En las distintas asignaturas, cada maestro emplea un método diferente para repasar el material y asegurar que sus estudiantes estén debidamente preparados para los exámenes de mayo. Hemos consultado a algunos profesores y estudiantes de los cursos AP para conocer su perspectiva sobre cómo son para ellos estos exámenes y el proceso de repaso previo a los mismos.
Obtuvimos perspectivas de la Sra. Gamboa, maestra de AP Historia de los Estados Unidos en Anaheim, Annabelle Cheely, estudiante de AP Español Lenguaje, Chimen Nzerem, estudiante de AP Inglés Lenguaje, APUSH, y AP Física 1. Cada una ha tenido su propia experiencia enseñando o tomando una clase AP.
Primero entrevistamos a la Sra. Gamboa y le preguntamos: “¿Qué es algo que siempre haces para preparar a tus estudiantes para el examen AP?”
Ella respondió: “Les doy paquetes de repaso, exámenes de práctica y les recuerdo constantemente que practiquen, vean videos y usen AP Classroom. Algo que espero que mis estudiantes obtengan del examen APUSH es que aprendan habilidades históricas, que piensen sobre su argumento y su tesis, pero también que puedan defenderla. Siempre digo: “el cielo es azul o el cielo es rojo; si puedes defender tu argumento, eso es lo que estás aprendiendo en mi clase, la habilidad.”
Como estudiante de APUSH, yo sé personalmente que la Sra. Gamboa trabaja duro para asegurar el éxito de sus estudiantes en este examen. Algo único de su clase es que hace que los estudiantes completen paquetes cada semana. Estos paquetes de AMSCO repasan capítulos completos y les dan información importante que necesitan saber para el examen APUSH.
Después entrevistamos a Annabelle Cheely. Annabelle es una estudiante de segundo año que actualmente toma AP Español Lenguaje. Esta es su primera clase AP, pero planea tomar más el próximo año. Sabemos que ha trabajado duro porque es una estudiante con mucho éxito.
Cuando le preguntamos: “¿Qué es lo que más esperas del examen AP y cómo sientes que te has preparado para este examen?” ella respondió: “Lo que más espero es el ensayo, porque me siento muy confiada y preparada para hacerlo. Me he preparado en clase porque hacemos una parte del examen casi todos los días, así que sé qué hacer y cómo hacerlo.”
¡Le deseamos mucha suerte a Annabelle en su examen AP y sabemos que le irá muy bien porque ha trabajado duro todo el año y está preparada para este siguiente paso!
Después, entrevistamos a Chimena Nzerem. Chimena es una estudiante de tercer año que actualmente está tomando tres clases AP. Como estudiante que ya ha tomado exámenes AP antes, sabe bastante sobre estas pruebas y es una estudiante increíble. Le preguntamos: “¿Cómo te sientes estudiando para varios exámenes AP y hay algún examen que esperas más que otro?” Ella respondió: “Se siente un poco abrumador porque a veces ni siquiera sé por dónde empezar a estudiar. Tengo muchas ganas de tomar AP Lang porque creo que es mi materia más fuerte y siento que puedo expresarme a través de los ensayos que nos han dado hasta ahora, y espero poder hacer lo mismo en el examen.”
Sabemos que Chimena hará un trabajo increíble en todos sus exámenes. Es una estudiante muy dedicada que ha tomado el tiempo para estudiar y aprender sobre cada tema durante este año.
En general, mientras los exámenes AP comienzan la próxima semana, sabemos que los estudiantes de AHS harán un gran trabajo. Nuestros maestros han pasado muchas horas preparando y enseñando estas materias, y nuestros estudiantes han pasado muchas horas aprendiendo, estudiando y obteniendo el conocimiento necesario para pasar estos exámenes. ¡Les deseamos mucha suerte a todos los estudiantes AP mientras comienza la temporada de exámenes AP!
