As the end of the 2025-2026 school year approaches, Mr. Wager, the Activities Director, is on the lookout for his new ASB class for the next school year. ASB stands for Associated Student Body, meaning that these students are leaders that coordinate and plan events along the school year for everyone to enjoy.

More than planning events or making posters, ASB creates a community within the class that is filled to the brim with creativity. It’s a welcoming environment that invites students from all grade levels to collaborate and curate projects they can be proud of. Hazelle Urieta, an 11th grader who recently joined the program this year says, “Joining ASB, I wanted to do so much and thought it would be impossible, but all my ideas were just the least we could do.”

Many events have been born through a single person’s ideas and hard-work. One example was the successful “Banda Night” that not only gave students the opportunity to enjoy themselves at a school dance, but also gave them a chance to embrace their culture. Now, the third Banda Night will take place in February and other schools in the district have begun participating as well. What once started as an event at Anaheim has become a blueprint for other schools.

For many people, ASB has become an integral part of their character and they’ve made numerous lifelong friends through the program. Alexa Reyes, a 4-year ASB member and president this school year, says, “For me, ASB is my everything. It’s the start of my self confidence, resilience, and perseverance. It’s also the place where I created long lasting connections with people whom I can call my family.”

Alexa Reyes has worked hard throughout her years in ASB from facilitating sophomore events to leading the ASB class and overall student body her senior year. She expresses the hard-work and dedication ASB requires, saying “From the outside people may not notice the amount of work ASB students put in but once you spend a day with us, you’ll realize that everyone has a part to do, and without them ASB wouldn’t be possible.”

Muchos eventos han surgido gracias a las ideas y el arduo trabajo de una sola persona. Un ejemplo fue la exitosa “Noche de Banda,” que no solo brindó a los estudiantes la oportunidad de divertirse en un baile escolar, sino que también les dio la oportunidad de celebrar su cultura. Ahora, la tercera Noche de Banda se llevará a cabo en febrero y otras escuelas del distrito también han comenzado a participar. Lo que comenzó como un evento en Anaheim se ha convertido en un modelo para otras escuelas.

Para muchas personas, ASB se ha convertido en una parte integral de su personalidad y han hecho numerosas amistades para toda la vida a través del programa. Alexa Reyes, miembro de ASB durante cuatro años y presidenta de este año escolar, dice: “Para mí, ASB lo es todo. Es el comienzo de mi autoconfianza, resiliencia y perseverancia. También es el lugar donde creé conexiones duraderas con personas a las que puedo llamar mi familia.”

Alexa Reyes ha trabajado arduamente durante sus años en ASB, desde facilitar eventos para estudiantes de segundo año hasta liderar la clase de ASB y el cuerpo estudiantil en general durante su último año. Expresa el arduo trabajo y la dedicación que requiere ASB, diciendo: “Desde afuera, es posible que la gente no note la cantidad de trabajo que los estudiantes de ASB realizan, pero una vez que pasas un día con nosotros, te das cuenta de que todos tienen un papel que desempeñar, y sin ellos, ASB no sería posible.”
