Who would have thought that a picture of an egg would reach not only the most likes on Instagram with 52 million likes, currently trying to reach the most comments with  3 million comments and a total of 10 million followers, but also use their platform for awareness? Lately, the account @world_record_egg has been posting the same picture of the egg but with the egg slowly cracking.  Not only has this egg broken world records with the simplicity of an egg, but on February 4th, @world_record_egg finally posted the egg cracking. The post was based on the pressure of social media and how it can affect someone, encouraging people to talk to someone about the pressures of social media and not allow for “cracking.” The account is also following several reports that promote mental health and the struggles that society is facing and is now a page dedicated to mental health awareness.

People on social media have been supportive of the route that the Instagram page has taken, with many commenting on the page encouraging the importance of mental health in a time in which social media is a significant part of people’s lives.   One user by the name @notthereal_leahferber commented, “I just wanted to say that I have never been more proud of a social media trend! The fact that they saw an opportunity, broke a world record, and then used the platform to spread awareness restores some of my faith in the world.”  Meanwhile, Zenaida Aguirre, a student at Anaheim High School, says, “I like that they put the egg cracking, many thought that it would be a chick hatching, but it turned out to have a more meaningful approach with bringing up the pressure of social media. It shows how the egg represents people and how we can easily crack under too much pressure.”
