Ms. Roman is the new 3D Design as well as Photo teacher here on the Anaheim High School campus. Many students warmed up to her right away, even though she joined halfway through the school year after students had to experience several substitutes. Despite the limited time, she quickly created a syllabus and projects, bringing structure, slowly but surely into her classroom.
She is always talking with students and opens her doors to anyone, even those not enrolled in her class, creating a welcoming space during lunch. Whether students are watching movies, playing Uno, or simply enjoying each other’s company, her classroom is never empty. She is always there when someone needs to talk or just needs someone to listen.
If you ever walk by the art quad display cases, you’ll see student work from her Photo and 3D Design classes. The pieces reflect the time, effort, and creativity students have put into their projects. Stepping inside her classroom, you immediately notice how it reflects the individuality and artistic expression of her students. Whether it’s photography, sculptures, or mixed-media work, every project tells a story. Ms. Roman encourages students, even those who may doubt their artistic abilities, like myself, to take things step by step and create something unique using different mediums. Her passion for teaching and art is clear in everything she does.
To better understand her impact, I interviewed Hazel, a 9th-grade student, about her experience with Ms. Roman.
What’s your name and grade?
“My name is Hazel, and I’m in 9th grade.”
What makes Ms. Roman unique from other teachers?
“I would say what makes her unique is her care and dedication to students. She’s always looking out for what’s wrong and is very kind. I haven’t really received this type of support from any other teacher before – she genuinely cares. She doesn’t just focus on what’s on the surface, but also what’s going on beneath that. She’s also very funny, and I consider her a friend because of how close we’ve gotten. She’s an amazing teacher. She cares, she’s funny, and she’s not hard on you to the point where you don’t want to be in class. She gives you different resources if you’re struggling, but still makes sure you get your work done.”
If Ms. Roman was a cartoon character, who would she be and why?
“I’m not really sure about specific cartoon characters since I don’t watch many shows, but if she were one, she would be funny and kind. She would also have a bit of a sneaky or playful sense of humor. Overall, she would be someone who knows how to give back and make others feel supported.”
What’s something Ms. Roman has said to you that has really stuck with you?
“She’s said a lot of things to me, especially during times when I was crying and she comforted me. But one thing that really stuck with me was when she told me not to listen to my haters and to just focus on myself. Even though it sounds simple, she said it during a time when I really needed it. It made me realize there’s no point in focusing on negative comments. It helped me a lot when I needed it. I was like, you know what, there’s no point in spending time arguing or fixing on these negative comments. Just ignore them, because they don’t mean much, you know? And so, it helped me a lot. ”
Ms. Roman has already made a strong impression on campus in such a short amount of time. Through her creativity, kindness, and dedication, she has created more than just a classroom, she has built a space where students feel supported, inspired, and encouraged to be themselves.

La Sra. Roman es la nueva profesora de Diseño 3D y de Fotografía aquí en el campus de Anaheim High School. ¿Cuál es tu nombre y en qué grado estás?
“Me llamo Hazel y estoy en noveno grado.”
¿Qué hace que la Sra. Roman sea única en comparación con otros profesores?
“Yo diría que lo que la hace única es su atención y dedicación hacia los estudiantes. Siempre está atenta a si algo anda mal y es muy amable. Realmente nunca antes había recibido este tipo de apoyo de ningún otro profesor; ella se preocupa de verdad. No se centra solo en lo que está en la superficie, sino también en lo que sucede por debajo de ella. Además, es muy divertida, y la considero una amiga debido a lo cercano que nos hemos vuelto. Es una profesora increíble. Se preocupa, es divertida y no es tan estricta como para que uno no quiera estar en su clase. Te ofrece diferentes recursos si tienes dificultades, pero aun así se asegura de que cumplas con tu trabajo.”
Si la Sra. Roman fuera un personaje de dibujos animados, ¿quién sería y por qué?
“En realidad no estoy muy segura de personajes específicos, ya que no veo muchos programas, pero si ella fuera uno, sería divertida y amable. También tendría un sentido del humor un poco intrigante y juguetón. En general, sería alguien que sabe cómo dar a las personas y hacer que los demás se sientan apoyados.”
¿Qué es algo que la Sra. Roman te haya dicho y que realmente se te haya quedado grabado?
“Me ha dicho muchas cosas, especialmente en momentos en los que yo estaba llorando y ella me consoló. Pero algo que realmente se me quedó grabado fue cuando me dijo que no hiciera caso a mis odiadores y que simplemente me centrara en mí misma. Aunque suene sencillo, me lo dijo en un momento en el que realmente lo necesitaba. Me hizo darme cuenta de que no tiene sentido centrarse en los comentarios negativos. Me ayudó mucho justo cuando lo necesitaba. Pensé: ‘¿Sabes qué? No tiene sentido perder el tiempo discutiendo o dándole vueltas a estos comentarios negativos. Simplemente ignoralos, porque no significan gran cosa, ¿sabes?’ Y así, me ayudó muchísimo.”
La Sra. Roman ya ha dejado una fuerte huella en el campus en tan poco tiempo. A través de su creatividad, amabilidad y dedicación, ha creado algo más que una simple clase, ha construido un espacio donde los estudiantes se sienten apoyados, inspirados y animados a ser ellos mismos.
