Another student, Alyn Baez, who is also a junior, tells us that having one lunch has negatively affected her because it has left her without a place to sit during lunch. In her own words, she shares, “It has impacted me personally. For example, there are so many people and barely any seats. I feel like if they wanted to have just one lunch, they should have added more tables because, as we can see, there aren’t enough seats for the students, and even if there are, they are very cramped. Also, it’s very crowded, especially when you want to eat lunch, since there’s barely any room to go get food and you barely have time to eat and actually enjoy it. That’s why I prefer to have two lunches.”
On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, Anaheim High School implemented a new strategy of having only one lunch instead of two like in previous years. A possible reason for this change was due to the low student population this year. Having only one lunch has led to much speculation and controversy among both students and teachers as to whether this new change has had a positive or negative impact.
Samantha Martinez, a junior, tells us that having one lunch has personally affected her in the aspect that there isn’t much space. In her own words, she tells us, “For me, there are definitely a lot of people, especially when I try to go to the bathroom, because I usually wait during lunch. There are long lines, and I don’t think I’m the only one who experiences this; other girls do too. I feel like it can sometimes be dangerous because it can cause bladder problems, and since I play sports, my parents want me to eat lunch, but there’s always a huge line, which really discourages me from getting in line just to get lunch. I also feel like this has affected students as well, as they have to wait long periods of time to use the bathroom and to get lunch.”
Meanwhile, Samantah Martinez shared with us how the one lunch renovation has affected her personally in a very negative way due to the long lines to use the bathroom and also for lunch. Now, we’re also going to continue hearing from several other students to further investigate whether this new renovation has truly had a positive or negative impact on students.
Based on our feedback we got from the students here at Anaheim High School, it seems like there’s some issues with the one lunch that many students aren’t appreciating. The shift from having two lunches to one has affected some of our students here at AHS. Melanie M mentioned that, ¨a lot of kids go hungry because they don’t want to wait in the line…a lot of teachers are strict as well with food in their classes.¨ Luckily there are some great teachers who allow students to come in and eat in their classes. Furthermore, Malenie M stated ¨the lines get really packed, its really hot, so then you burn yourself out there just waiting in line…the lines always take forever because people are very indecisive and forget what they are going into.¨
Although this ¨chaotic¨ one lunch rule has been a concern to many people, there are some pros to the situation such as; convenient club meetings, Club Rush, socializing with friends, etc. It’s important to keep in mind that us students are still adjusting to the one lunch and things will shift with time. We are still new to this style of lunch and some will adjust faster than others. We are grateful as students at Anaheim High School for our amazing staff and the things they do for us here at AHS.
