House of Chimney Cakes

If you ever find yourself walking by West Center Street Promenade in Anaheim, CA, I recommend you make a quick stop at House of Chimney Cakes. If you’re looking for something sweet and refreshing, you’re in luck. Their chimney cakes are delicious, a little on the sweet side. If you’ve never heard of a chimney cake, they are also known as a kürtőskalács. They originate in Transylvania. It’s a cross between sweet bread and a doughnut. They are very popular, so expect to find a line outside waiting to order.

They fill the pastry with ice cream and toppings such as candy and other desserts. When you walk into the shop, you will notice how pretty and neat the inside is. It’s tiny inside, so everyone patiently waits outside.

You can either order an O.G original chimney cake, build your own, or order one out of the 12 signature creations. I had never tried this before, so I went the easy route and chose the strawberry cheesecake signature creation.

Once your order is ready, they come outside and bring it to you. The employees are so kind and make the experience exceptional. You have the choice to sit at one of the tables outside or take a walk and enjoy the evening. My ice cream was tasty but a bit on the sweet side. I had the vanilla bean ice cream on a graham cracker chimney cone. The toppings consisted of pieces of cheesecake and strawberries topped with strawberry sauce.

The ice cream was good, you can never go wrong with vanilla, and the pieces of cheesecake on top were so delicious. I must say the strawberries were not so great, a bit sour, and not the best. The graham cracker chimney cone itself was yummy. If you have never tried it before, I suggest you give it a try.
