T Series Takeover
October 2, 2018
Youtube has been a largely successful company since its launch in 2005, and over the years, it has grown dramatically. Youtube has over 1.8 billion active users every month with almost 1 in 2 people on the internet visiting the site, according to Business Insider.
On YouTube, creators get subscribers and keep track of the many people who follow their channel. Subscribers earn YouTubers plaques if they reach one of the three milestones: the silver play button for 100 thousand subscribers, the golden play button for 1 million followers, and the diamond play button for 10 million followers.
The first most subscribed YouTuber was Fred. He was the first YouTuber with over one million subscribers. His fame was due to the skits he made as a character who acted childish and in a comedic manner. However, his reign was short lived and his subscriber count was surpassed by Smosh, which was a channel created by Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox who created comedic skits in their house and then grew to create more high-quality videos. Finally, the YouTuber who has been the most subscribed personality of the past 5 years, the longest time for anyone keeping their count, is Pewdiepie.
This channel was created by Felix Kjellberg, a Swedish YouTuber, who gained his popularity by playing video games with his funny and overdramatic English commentary. He currently has 65 million subscribers, the most of any YouTuber. However, his time of reign has been plagued with controversy from the mainstream media criticizing him over the past year.
Every reign must come to an end and now T-Series, which is an Indian-based company that produces professional-quality music videos and skits, are gaining millions of views on almost every video they produce. They currently have over 48 billion views on their channel. They have a huge Indian-based audience and have had massive growth. Last month, they managed to gain 4 million subscribers, which has been their constant rate for almost the entire year.
Now, T-Series is about 3 million subscribers away from overtaking the number one spot on YouTube and becoming the new face of YouTube. Leaving Pewdiepie’s popularity of 5 years behind. At the rate T-Series is gaining subscribers, they will most likely overtake Pewdiepie in the following weeks.
