Children Discover Murals at the Anaheim Public Library

September 26, 2018

At the Anaheim Central library, children learn the importance of being part of a community.  The Anaheim Public Library created a project mural for children to paint as a means to help them understand that their actions can transform their community.

On September 17th, the Anaheim Public Library offered a blank mural for children to show their creative abilities.  The addition of child-painted murals at the library is to teach children the influence that they hold in their community.  Byron Adams, a library assistant, believes in children understanding their importance in the community, “Something about a mural is that it brings people together and it doesn’t have to be perfect in any way, just creating and encouraging children to utilize skills they don’t necessarily understand that they have; and boosts them to keep doing things so that once they get to a place in their lives where they can contribute independently to the community, they have confidence that they got when they were younger.”

The library hopes to teach children that they can impact their community with the things they create no matter how small. With the help of the public library, children have the opportunity to branch out and create something that reflects the unity of children within their community.
