Una joven de 14 años muere por cirugía plástica en México

La muerte de Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo, adolesente de 14 años, causó preocupación e indignación en México tras descubrirse  su fallecimiento el 20 de septiembre, luego de recibir cirugía plástica en una clínica privada del estado de Durango.

Tanto la madre, identificada como Paloma Escobedo, y su pareja, el cirujano Victor Manuel Rosales, quien hizo la cirugía, fueron detenidos y acusados el pasado viernes, 3 de octubre. Carlos Arellano, padre de la niña, dijo en una entrevista, “Yo lo que quiero es que lo de mi niña no quede en esto. Que paguen los que le hicieron esto a mi niña, que paguen con cárcel.” 

Carlos contó que se separó de la madre cuando la niña tenía 4 años, sin embargo, aseguró que tenía la custodia compartida y que estaba constantemente hablando con su hija. “Era una niña feliz con su cuerpo, con su sonrisa, feliz con la vida. Estaba a punto de cumplir 15 años. Ya estaba todo listo para la fiesta. Otro de sus sueños era conocer Europa y ya estaba el viaje listo,” dijo en una entrevista. 

Paloma fue sometida a una intervención para aumento de prótesis mamarias y una lipotransferencia a los glúteos. Sin embargo, luego de varios días internada en terapia intensiva, Paloma Nicole sufrió una inflamación cerebral severa, y a los pocos días, falleció. La madre de la niña le había ocultado al padre biológico que su hija iba a someterse a una cirugía estética. La mujer le dijo que la menor tenía Covid-19 (hasta le envió una prueba falsa) y que iba a estar incomunicada. 

La adolecente practicaba deportes. El marzo pasado, resultó campeona con su equipo de vóleibol de un torneo colegial. Pero el pasado 11 de septiembre, su exesposa le informó que la menor había dado positivo en Covid-19. Según supo Arellano, al día siguiente fue sometida a la cirugía estética efectuada por la pareja de su exesposa. 

Tres días después, el 15 de septiembre, Arellano fue informado de que su hija estaba muy grave en terapia intensiva. Le indujeron un coma y la entubaron debido a que presentaba una inflamación del cerebro severa. “Me devastó, me derrumbé por no saber por qué estaba así,” asegura Arellano. “La tenían muy tapada, todo el cuerpo, tenía almohadas alrededor, todo muy tapado. Sí se me hizo raro, pero ya hasta después me enteré de todo.” 

Además Paloma Escobedo también fue investigada por “usurpación de profesión” y por su parte, el cirujano Victor Manuel Rosales enfrenta cargos de mala praxis. El caso llegó a la conferencia de prensa de la presidenta de México, Claudia Sheinbaum. Pero el caso ha despertado cuestionamientos y preocupación acerca de los procedimientos estéticos de edad. Por eso debemos de tener cuidado de no dejar a nuestras hijas hacerse este tipo de cirugías por su seguridad. 

 Además tuve la oportunidad de entrevistar a mi mamá y hacerle unas preguntas sobre menores de edad recibiendo cirugía plástica. Y mi pregunta era, 

“Qué opinas sobre niñas menores de edad recibiendo cirugía plástica a los 14 años.” “No estoy de acuerdo porque todavía se están desarrollando.” 

“Crees que las mamás de estas niñas deberían de recibir un castigo? Y por qué?” “Si porque es poner en riesgo la vida de sus hijas.” 

“Deberían las cirugías plásticas ser ilegales para menores de edad?” “Si porque deberían ser ilegales para menores de edad aun con el consentimiento de los padres.”  

“Porque crees que es peligroso que niñas se hagan este tipos de cirugías?” “Porque arriesgan su vida por algo que no es necesario para su edad.” 

 The death of Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo, a 14 year old teenager, caused concern and outrage in Mexico after her death was discovered on September 20th, following plastic surgery at a private clinic in the state of Durango. 

Both the mother, Paloma Escobedo, and her partner, surgeon Victor Manuel Rosales who performed the surgery, were arrested and charged last Friday, October 3rd. Carlos Arellano, the girl’s father, said in an interview, “What I want is for what happened to my daughter not to end like this. Those who did this to my daughter should pay, and should be sentenced to jail.” 

Carlos said he separated from her mother when the girl was 4 years old, however, he assured that he had joint custody and that he was constantly talking to his daughter. “She was a happy girl with her body, with her smile, happy with life. She was about to turn 15. Everything was ready for the party. Another of her dreams was to visit Europe, and the trip was already planned,” he said in an interview. 

Paloma underwent breast augmentation and a fat transfer to her buttocks. However, after several days in intensive care, Paloma Nicole suffered severe brain swelling and died a few days later. The girl’s mother had hidden from her biological father that her daughter was undergoing cosmetic surgery. The woman told him that the girl had COVID-19 (even sending him a fake test) and that she would be isolated. 

The teenager played sports. Last March, she won a school tournament with her volleyball team. But on September 11, his ex-wife informed her that the minor had tested positive for COVID-19. According to Arellano, the following day she underwent cosmetic surgery performed by his ex-wife’s partner. 

Three days later, on September 15, Arellano was informed that his daughter was in critical condition in intensive care. She was placed in an induced coma and intubated due to severe brain swelling. “It devastated me; I collapsed, not knowing why she was like that; Arellano says. “They had her covered up, her whole body, pillows around her, everything was covered up. It did seem strange to me, but I didn’t find out everything until later.” 

In addition, Paloma Escobedo was also investigated for “impersonation of her profession,” and surgeon Victor Manuel Rosales faces malpractice charges. The case was featured at a press conference with Mexican President Caludia Sheinbaum. However, the case has raised questions and concerns about cosmetic procedures for older women. That’s why we must be careful not to let our daughters undergo this type of surgery for their safety. 

I also had the opportunity to interview my mom and ask her some questions about teenagers receiving plastic surgery at the age of 14 and my first question was, 

“What do you think about underage girls receiving plastic surgery at 14 years old?” “I don’t agree because they are still developing.”

“Do you think these girl’s mothers should be punished? And Why?” “Yes because it is putting the lives of their daughters at risk” 

“Should plastic surgeries for minors be illegal?” “Yes, because they should be illegal for minors even with parental consent.” 

“Why do you think it is dangerous for girls to have these types of surgeries?” “Because they risk their lives for something that is not necessary for their age.”
