Greta Thunberg was detained by prison officials of Israel on Oct 1, 2025. Although she was recently released on Oct 6, 2025, she had to go through getting kidnapped by them and tortured. Other activists were in that same position as her while trying to help deliver aid to Gaza. They spoke out about the mistreatment that included: physical, psychological, and verbal abuse among many other things that no human being should ever have to face. However, the Ministry and National security denied the mistreatment. Afterwards, she was greeted by a crowd once she was deported back to Greece. They showed their support on freeing Palestine by chanting and letting her know she and the many lives that are being lost, harmed and killed in this war are seen and heard. Her message to everyone in that room and to reporters streaming worldwide was:
¨let me be clear, There is a genocide going on in front of our very eyes. A live streamed genocide on all of our phones. No one has the privilege to say we are not aware of what is happening. No one in the future will be able to say we did not know. International law states: ‘have a legal obligation to act to prevent and to stop a genocide from happening that means ending complicity, applying real preasure and ending arms transfers.’ We are not even seeing the bare minimum from our governments. Our international systems are betraying Palestinians. They are not even able to prevent the worst war crimes from happening. And I will never comprehend how humans can be so evil, that you would deliberately starve millions of people living trapped under illegal siege as a continuation of decades and decades of suffering, suffocating oppression.¨
It was clear that throughout all of this Greta was strong and fierce. She puts everyone in perspective, not just viewers, but the government as well and how the system must be failing us for this to have come so far unaddressed. Her experience, however, was not the reason why she came to fight, it was to put the light onto Palestine. She responded back to someone in the crowd that said, ¨You’re heroes!¨ with ¨No! We- No, not heroes. No! No– we are doing the bare minimum.¨ This goes to show that what they’ve done isn’t enough if they’re out there needing to help Palestinian people.

Un genocidio transmitido en directo a través de nuestros teléfonos.Nadie tiene el privilegio de decir que no estamos conscientes de lo que está sucediendo. Nadie en el futuro podrá decir que no lo sabíamos. El derecho internacional establece que ‘tenemos la obligación legal de actuar para prevenir y detener un genocidio, lo que implica poner fin a la complicidad, aplicar presión real y poner fin a las transferencias de armas.’ Ni siquiera estamos viendo lo mínimo indispensable de nuestros gobiernos. Nuestros sistemas internacionales están traicionando a los palestinos. Ni siquiera son capaces de evitar que se cometan los peores crímenes de guerra. Y nunca comprenderé cómo los seres humanos pueden ser tan malvados, como para matar de hambre deliberadamente a millones de personas que viven atrapadas bajo un asedio ilegal como continuación de décadas y décadas de sufrimiento y opresión asfixiante.”
Quedó claro que, durante todo este proceso, Greta se mostró fuerte y feroz. Pone a todos en perspectiva, no solo a los espectadores, sino también al gobierno, y como el sistema debe estar fallando para que esto haya quedado sin abordar. Sin embargo, su experiencia no fue la razón por la que vino a luchar, sino para visibilizar la situación en Palestina. Ella respondió a alguien del público que dijo, “¡Son héroes!” con un, “¡No! Nosotros… No, no somos héroes. ¡No! No, estamos haciendo lo mínimo.” Esto demuestra que lo que han hecho no es suficiente si están ahí fuera necesitando ayudar al pueblo palestino.
