Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a very popular thing nowadays. The origin of thoughts about this concept dates back to the early 1950s. The first use of AI was in 1956, but the versions we know and use today (like Chat GPT) date back to only November 2022. In 3 years, the expansion of Artificial Intelligence has skyrocketed. At Anaheim High School, its use is very common. Some students use it as a tool, while many others use it to simply obtain answers for their work.
What is Artificial Intelligence? AI is making computers act like humans. They can think, learn, and make choices on their own, like solving problems or making decisions. These systems can understand things, learn from data, and handle new situations without needing help all the time.
In an interview with Sofia Estelles, a very busy student athlete, she gave us her opinions on Artificial Intelligence. When asked whether the increasing use of AI has made it harder to learn, Sofia explained that, for her, AI actually makes things easier to understand. “The main reason why I use AI is to help me understand my work better,” she said. “Sometimes in more advanced classes, the wording can be really complicated, and AI helps break it down.” Sofia emphasized that she doesn’t rely on Artificial Intelligence to avoid doing the work. Instead, she uses it as a support tool when she’s confused or needs extra help. “AI actually helps me understand the class better and puts things in easier words.”
Samantha Martinez, an honors and AP student, explained to us how she responsibly uses Artificial Intelligence. With a full schedule and heavy workload, Samantha says AI has become a valuable tool to help manage her time and reduce academic stress. “I have so many classes, and every class gives at least one assignment,” she shared. “I use AI to help make my work easier in formatting and giving me ideas.” Samantha clarified that she doesn’t use AI to plagiarize or avoid the learning process, but rather to build off suggestions and develop her own original work. “I don’t plagiarize because that’s not who I am,” she said. “I take it, put it into my own words, and add my own ideas to it.”
Lastly, in an interview with Science teacher Mr. Garcia, he discussed how, as a teacher, he uses Artificial Intelligence, and the problems he has viewed it causing. Mr. Garcia believes AI becomes an issue when students misuse it, relying on it to complete work rather than understand the material. “If you’re using it to help understand a topic, that’s fine. But if you’re just copying answers, you’re not thinking critically,” he said. He’s noticed that some students skip over the learning process, expecting instant answers without verifying information or developing research skills. “They’re losing stamina to do real work, and that’s a skill they’ll need in life.” As a teacher, Mr. Garcia uses AI sparingly, mainly for rewording questions or generating data for labs, not for full lesson planning. “If I need real help, I talk to people. That’s still better than just asking AI,” he concluded.
In the end, Artificial Intelligence is a powerful tool that can support learning when used responsibly. Whether it’s breaking down complex ideas or saving time, Artificial Intelligence has its benefits, but it’s up to each person to use it wisely and not lose sight of the importance of truly understanding and doing the work.

El primer uso de la Inteligencia Artificial fue en 1956, pero las versiones que conocemos y usamos hoy (como ChatGPT) empezaron en noviembre de 2022. En solo 3 años, el uso de la Inteligencia Artificial ha crecido muchísimo. En la escuela Anaheim High School, su uso es muy común. Algunos estudiantes la usan como una herramienta y muchos otros la usan solo para obtener respuestas para su tarea.
¿Qué es la Inteligencia Artificial? La IA es hacer que las computadoras actúen como personas. Pueden pensar, aprender y tomar decisiones solas, como resolver problemas o decidir algo. Estos sistemas pueden entender cosas, aprender con datos, y manejar situaciones nuevas sin ayuda todo el tiempo.
En una entrevista con Sofía Estelles, una ocupada estudiante atleta, ella nos dio su opinión sobre la Inteligencia Artificial. Cuando le preguntamos si el uso de la Inteligencia Artificial ha hecho más difícil aprender, Sofía explicó que, para ella, la IA en realidad hace que las cosas sean más fáciles de entender. “La razón principal por la que uso la IA es para ayudarme a entender mejor mi trabajo,” dijo. “A veces, en clases más avanzadas, las palabras pueden ser muy difíciles, y la IA me ayuda a explicarlo más fácil.” Sofía dijo que no depende de la IA para no hacer la tarea. Ella la usa como una herramienta de apoyo cuando está confundida o necesita más ayuda. “La IA en verdad me ayuda a entender mejor la clase y lo pone en palabras más fáciles.”
Samantha Martínez, una estudiante de clases de honores y AP, explica cómo usa la Inteligencia Artificial de forma responsable. Con un horario lleno y mucha tarea, Samantha dice que la IA se ha vuelto una herramienta muy útil para manejar su tiempo y tener menos estrés por la escuela. “Tengo muchas clases, y cada clase da por lo menos una tarea,” compartió. “Uso la IA para hacer mi trabajo más fácil, como en el formato o para darme ideas.” Samantha aclaró que no usa la IA para copiar o evitar aprender, sino para usar las ideas y hacer su propio trabajo original. “No copio porque esa no soy yo,” dijo. “Tomo la idea, la pongo en mis propias palabras, y le agrego mis propias ideas.”
Por último, en una entrevista con el maestro de ciencias, el Sr. García, él habla sobre cómo, como maestro, usa la Inteligencia Artificial y los problemas que ha visto con su uso. El Sr. García piensa que la IA se vuelve un problema cuando los estudiantes la usan mal, confiando en ella para hacer el trabajo en lugar de aprender el material. “Si la usas para entender un tema, está bien. Pero si solo copias respuestas, no estás pensando bien,” dijo. Él ha visto que algunos estudiantes se saltan el proceso de aprender y solo quieren respuestas rápidas, sin revisar la información o hacer su propia investigación. “Están perdiendo la fuerza para hacer trabajo real, y esa es una habilidad que van a necesitar en la vida.” Como maestro, el Sr. García usa la IA solo un poco, más que nada para cambiar cómo están escritas las preguntas o para hacer datos para experimentos, no para planear toda una clase. “Si necesito ayuda de verdad, hablo con personas. Eso todavía es mejor que solo preguntar a la IA,” concluyó.
