En este artículo les informaremos a ustedes sobre el problema en por qué hay muchos animales callejeros sin un hogar. También, en cómo podemos mejorar en no tener animales callejeros. Este problema está ocurriendo en los Estados Unidos hoy en día y a nivel mundial. La mayoría de los animales callejeros que andan en la calle son perros y gatos, son los animales más comunes que no tienen un hogar.
¿Por qué esto ocurre?
Hay muchas razones por las que muchos perros y gatos no tienen un hogar. Las razones por la que hay tantos animales callejeros en los Estados Unidos y a nivel mundial es debido a causas como el abandono por motivos económicos o de comportamiento, la compra impulsiva de mascotas y la falta de conciencia sobre la responsabilidad de los dueños. También, hay gatos y perros callejeros porque se pierden y no son encontrados. Pero el problema es muy común y siempre es el caso debido a la falta de esterilización y programas de control poblacional. Así como las instalaciones de control animal rechazan recibir a más animales, sigue aumentando su número en las calles. Lo más triste es que hay gatos y perros que nacen en la calle y ahí se quedan toda su vida.
¿Cómo afecta al animal?
Ser animal callejero afecta negativamente a un animal de muchas maneras. Por ejemplo, la desnutrición. En muchos de los casos los animales dependen de la basura para poder encontrar comida. Segundo, la falta de atención veterinaria. Esto puede llegar a causar enfermedades graves y parásitos. Tercero, el peligro de accidentes de tráfico y maltrato humano. La mayoría del maltrato humano que reciben los perros y gatos callejeros es alrededor solamente por ser animales de la calle. Cuarto, el efecto más importante de un animal de la calle es la falta de esterilización. Ese es el problema porque perros y gatos siguen aumentando en las calles. Quinto, las peleas entre los animales llegan a lastimarse así mismo. El instinto que les sale por el miedo de protegerse. Por último la vida en la calle es una condición muy vulnerable para los animales porque sufren múltiples riesgos físicos y de salud.
¿Cómo podemos cambiar este problema?
Hay muchas formas en cómo las personas pueden ir cambiando este problema poco a poco. Por ejemplo, la adopción es una responsabilidad muy importante. Los dueños no deberían maltratar y abandonar a sus mascotas. Promover la esterilización sería una buena idea para que los dueños lleven a sus mascotas al veterinario para obtener su cirugía de esterilización y vacunas. Apoyar a los refugios a través de donaciones y voluntariado sería algo beneficioso para que perros y gatos que no tienen un hogar reciban ayuda sin tener que esperar que sean rescatados. Por último, a cuidar de nuestras mascotas muy bien para que no se nos vayan y queden perdidos en la calle.
Entrevista
Entrevisté a dos personas para saber más lo que las personas opinan en este tema muy importante. Las personas que entrevisté se llaman Cecilia Luna y su hijo Alexis Carrera. Para comenzar, primero llegué a conocer a Cecilia y Alexis, honestamente son buenas personas que les importó muchísimo del tema.
Las preguntas que les pregunté a ambos fueron “¿Qué opinan sobre animales sin un hogar?” y “¿Qué es lo que tú haces para cambiar este problema?”
Esto fue lo que me dijeron ambos:
“Yo creo que es algo muy triste porque si he visto a muchos perros y gatos viviendo en la calle y honestamente muchísimo en mi comunidad”-Cecilia Luna. Ella también me comentó que ha visto varias ocasiones donde gatos llegan a su puerta y como se siente mal les ofrece comida. Cecilia me comentó que ella tiene cinco gatos y un perro entonces a ella no le gusta ver a otros animalitos sufriendo. Ella me contó que lo que ella hace para cambiar este problema es tratar de alimentar a los gatos que llegan a su hogar. Adicionalmente, ella también cuida muchísimo a sus niños porque para ella sus mascotas son como sus hijos.
Por último, le pregunté las dos mismas preguntas a su hijo, Alexis, y él contestó, “Yo creo que es algo muy triste de ver porque yo también tengo gatos y un perrito entonces no me gusta ver animales sufrir cuando ellos no tienen la culpa de nada.” Lo que Alexis dijo que haría para cambiar la situación es que también le ayudaría a su mamá cuidar a sus mascotas y alimentar a los animalitos que lleguen a su puerta.

This problem is occurring in the United States today and worldwide. Most stray animals on the streets are dogs and cats; they are the most common animals without homes.
Why does this happen?
There are many reasons why so many dogs and cats don’t have homes. The reasons why there are so many stray animals in the United States and worldwide are due to causes such as abandonment for economic or behavioral reasons, impulsive pet purchases, and a lack of awareness about the owners’ responsibilities. Stray cats and dogs also occur because they get lost and can’t be found. But the problem is very common and is always the case due to the lack of sterilization and population control programs. Animal control facilities also refuse to accept more animals, increasing their number on the streets. The saddest thing is that some cats and dogs are born on the streets and remain there their entire lives.
How does it affect the animal?
Being a stray negatively affects an animal in many ways. For example, malnutrition. Many cases require animals to scavenge for food. Second, the lack of veterinary care. This can lead to serious illnesses and parasites. Third, the risk of traffic accidents and human abuse. Most of the human abuse stray dogs and cats receive is simply due to being street animals. Fourth, the most significant effect on a stray animal is the lack of sterilization. This is a problem because dogs and cats continue to increase on the streets. Fifth, fights between animals can lead to self-harm, an instinct that comes from fear to protect themselves. Finally, life on the streets is a very vulnerable condition for animals because they suffer multiple physical and health risks.
How can we change this problem?
There are many ways people can gradually change this problem. For example, adoption is a very important responsibility. Owners should not abuse or abandon their pets. Promoting sterilization would be a good idea so owners take their pets to the vet for spay/neuter surgery and vaccinations. Supporting shelters through donations and volunteering would be beneficial so that homeless dogs and cats can receive help without having to wait for rescue. Finally, we should take good care of our pets so they don’t get lost on the streets.
Interview
Today, I interviewed two people to learn more about people’s opinions on this very important issue. The person I interviewed is Cecilia Luna, and her son Alexis Carrera. To begin, I first got to know Cecilia and Alexis. Honestly, they are good people and they care deeply about the issue. The questions I asked them both were, “What do you think about stray animals? And what are you doing to change this problem?” And this is what they both told me. “I think it’s a very sad thing because I’ve seen a lot of dogs and cats living on the streets, and honestly, a lot in my community,” Cecilia Luna said. She also told me that she’s seen cats come to her door on several occasions, and because she feels bad, she offers them food. Cecilia told me that she has five cats and one dog, so she doesn’t like seeing other animals suffering. She told me that what she does to change this problem is try to feed the cats that come into her home. Additionally, she also takes great care of her children because, to her, her pets are like children. Finally, I asked her son the same two questions and he replied, “I think it’s a very sad thing to see because I also have cats and a dog, so I don’t like seeing animals suffer when it’s not their fault.” What Alexis said she would do to change the situation is that she would also help her mother take care of her pets and feed the little animals that come to her door. And that’s the end. “What do you think about stray animals? And what are you doing to change this problem?”
