Our very talented chamber singers are going to New York and they have the amazing opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall. This opportunity wasn’t presented to them out of the blue, it has been something in the making.
The choir first performed at the World Strides Festival on April 4th, which allowed them to receive the superior level, and gold, which is technically first place among 16 schools in the country. Because they placed first, they got presented with the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall. Alongside getting first place, they also received the Spirit of San Diego Award for having the best spirit and emotion with their performance.
I asked 3 year choir member, and vice president, Neithen Piedra, “How was it performing in San Diego?”
And he said, “It was very nerve wracking the way we had trouble getting down the parts that were difficult, but towards the end, we doubted ourselves, and it felt like we lost it all and in the end we ended up getting number 1.”
Chamber singers were told that a special guest would be coming to visit them on August 21st, but they did not know who, most of the chamber singers believed that it would be either Governor Gavin Newsom or Mayor Ashleigh Aitken.
Disneyland representatives had surprised chamber singers and presented them with a $50,000 donation to help them get one step closer to New York.
When asked, “How did you feel when you first found out about the donation,” choir president and 4 year member, Fatima Gonzalez said, “I was so excited like genuinely my jaw dropped because it is something that is going to push us into getting to New York.”
The reason as to why chamber singers received the donation and recognition from Disneyland was because parents of chamber singers went to city hall to bring attention to the achievements of these students. The achievement of the chamber singers caught the attention of Disneyland representatives, who then took notice and decided to donate 50,000 dollars.
I asked choir director, Ms. Cisneros how she feels about her students going to New York, and she said, “I feel really excited, very proud of them. I feel like they worked really hard to earn their spot there. I just listen to the music and it feels wonderful. I am ready for them to sing with a big choir in comparison to singing with our small choir group.”
I then asked if they are ready for New York, she said, “We’re definitely not ready yet, we have to pay for it, learn the music, but with each step, we’re getting closer, especially with the donation from DisneyDisney, we’re getting there.”

Ellos se interesaron y decidieron donar $50,000.
Le pregunté a la directora del coro, la Sra. Cisneros, “¿Cómo se siente acerca de que sus estudiantes visiten Nueva York?” Ella dijo, “Me siento muy emocionada, muy orgullosa de ellos. Siento que trabajaron duro para ganarse su lugar allí. Solo escucho la música y se siente maravilloso. Estoy lista para que ellos canten con un gran coro en comparación con nuestro pequeño grupo de coro.”
Luego le pregunté si están listos para Nueva York, y ella dijo, “Definitivamente todavía no estamos listos, tenemos que pagar por el viaje, aprender la música, pero con cada paso estamos más cerca, especialmente con la donación de Disney, estamos logrando llegar.”
