The VMAs take place once every year, and it is a way to allow the voices of the fans to be heard.
Fans are able to vote for who they want to win the awards.
This is one of the biggest nights in music as the fans feel recognized since they are able to give their input. Plus, the artists do some crazy publicity stunts as this award shows it is not as “elegant” as the Grammys are.
Many people have different opinions on aspects of the award show. I was able to interview someone who watched the show through the television.
I interviewed Jayden Reyes, he is an avid viewer of the VMAs. I first asked what was good about the show. He said, “the show was good, the people, the nominees, nominations were good. The outfits were good, I would say the performances too, they were bomb.” I then asked what he didn’t like about the show and he said, “ The awards were announced but it wasn’t on the big stage, just on the side.” If he could improve the show for next year he would pick a better date and a better timing, also having more organization as the performances seemed crunched together. I finally asked if he would watch the award show next year and he said “yeah.”
This year, the show received 5.5 million viewers, which is an increase from the previous year with 4.09 million.
Some parts of the VMAs which stood out with the media were the performances and the outfits. Katseye’s performance really stood out with everyone as they are the new hit group in the industry. Everyone was singing their song. This was seen as an artist’s “I made it moment” which is really wholesome.
A lot of people liked how the outfits of the artists aligned with their upcoming projects. Conan Gray dressed up as a sailor to go with his recent album. Doja Cat wore an 80s style dress and hairdo to coexist with the vibe of her new project.
So, whether you watched the whole show or just saw some highlights about it through Tik Tok, there is visibility that the show is making its incline and we can’t wait to see what next year’s show has in store.
