Have you heard about the new phone policy in California? Well it has been affecting students at Anaheim High School. At the beginning of this school year, a new phone policy was implemented that required students to have phones away during class hours. This limited phone use to only passing periods and lunch. Some people say that this phone policy is helpful. Others would disagree. We talked with three teachers and two students on this matter.
We interviewed Mrs. Rodriguez, Mrs. Lopez, and Ms. Chaudry. All agreed that the phone policy has had a positive effect in their classrooms.
Mrs Rodriguez said, “[The phone policy] has had a positive impact because now it is more of a routine for the students.”
Mrs. Lopez said, “I think so far we are one month into the school year and I would say that it’s affected my classroom management in a positive way… so I think for me it’s been great.”
Ms. Chaudry said, “the phone policy has had a very positive effect in all my classes. I like it when my students are not using their phones at all.”
All of these teachers agree that the phone policy has had a positive effect and that students are slowly but surely adapting to it. However, some students would disagree.
We interviewed students Alyssa Moreno and Emma Alvarez on this topic.
Student Emma Alvarez said, “I think that the phone policy has had more of a negative impact than a positive impact because a lot of the teachers have been able to rely on phones as a resource.”
Student Alyssa Moreno said, “I don’t really feel like the phone policy has made me more productive because I’ve already had my priorities straight…”
Both students unanimously agreed that being able to have their phones on them would be beneficial.
The phone policy has both positive and negative effects on some students. At the end of the day, students are going to be more productive because they are not tempted to go onto their phones anymore. The phone policy however, does affect students who do their work and want to have a little free time at the end of class when they are done with their work.
Students all over campus have struggled to adapt because most teachers do not all have a lenient phone policy in their classrooms. Some students still believe that it should be okay to use during learning time. This has not only affected students in Anaheim but all over California. There are both negative and positive effects but it is important to recognize that the phone policy has had a positive effect for many teachers and students. Although students believe it isn’t a good policy, it is here to stay.
¿Has oído hablar de la nueva póliza de teléfonos en California? Pues, ha estado afectando a los estudiantes de Anaheim. Al inicio del año escolar, se implementó una nueva póliza de teléfono que hace a los estudiantes guardar sus teléfonos durante las horas de clase. Este uso limitado sólo se aplica en los periodos de descanso y durante el almuerzo. Algunos dicen que esta póliza de teléfonos es útil. Otros no están de acuerdo. Hablamos con tres maestras y dos estudiantes sobre este tema.
Entrevistamos a la Sra. Rodriguez, la Sra. López y la Sra. Chaudry. Todas coincidieron en que la póliza de teléfonos ha tenido un efecto positivo en sus aulas.
La Sra. Rodríguez dijo: “[La póliza de teléfonos] ha tenido un impacto positivo porque ahora es más habitual para los estudiantes.”
La Sra. López dijo: “Creo que ya llevamos casi un mes y diría que ha afectado positivamente … así que creo que ha sido genial.”
La Sra. Chaudry dijo: “La póliza de teléfonos ha tenido un efecto muy positivo en todas mis clases. Me gusta cuando mis estudiantes no usan sus teléfonos para nada.”
Todas estas maestras creen en que la póliza de teléfonos ha tenido un efecto positivo y que los estudiantes se están adaptando poco a poco. Sin embargo, algunos estudiantes no están de acuerdo.
Entrevistamos a las estudiantes Alyssa Moreno y Emma Álvarez sobre este tema.
La estudiante Emma Álvarez dijo: “Creo que la póliza de teléfonos ha tenido un impacto más negativo que positivo porque muchos maestros han podido hacer uso de los teléfonos como recurso.”
La estudiante Alyssa Moreno dijo: “Realmente no siento que la póliza del teléfono me haya hecho más productiva porque ya tenía mis prioridades claras…”
Ambas estudiantes coincidieron unánimemente en que poder tener sus teléfonos consigo sería beneficioso.
La póliza del teléfono tiene efectos tanto positivos como negativos en algunos estudiantes. En definitiva, los estudiantes serán más productivos porque ya no tendrán la tentación de usar sus teléfonos. Sin embargo, esta póliza afecta a los estudiantes que hacen sus tareas y desean tener un poco de tiempo libre al final de la clase, cuando están terminadas.
Los estudiantes de todo el campus han tenido dificultades para adaptarse porque la mayoría de los maestros no tienen una póliza de teléfonos flexible en sus aulas. Algunos estudiantes todavía creen que debería estar bien usarlo durante el tiempo de aprendizaje. Pero esto no solo ha afectado a los estudiantes de Anaheim, sino a toda California. Hay efectos tanto negativos como positivos, pero es importante reconocer que la póliza del teléfono ha tenido un efecto positivo para muchos profesores y estudiantes. Aunque los estudiantes creen que no es una buena póliza, está aquí para quedarse.
