Anaheim High Students Participate in the Servathon on MLK day

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the first federal holiday that honors African Americans and falls on the third Monday of every January. Created by President Ronald Reagan in 1983, numerous citizens dedicate this day to provide service to their community. Anaheim High School students hosted their own Servathon this past Monday, January 21, in which various clubs participated.

Each club focused on one activity throughout the day, but everyone was able to participate in any activity they liked. DLA students made cards to the school staff while the Ecology club helped clean the campus. RSVP and NHS had creative activities, such as painting the school’s trash cans and making kindness rocks. These kindness rocks will be hidden around the campus and community. If you happen to find one, you should cherish it and then place it in a new hiding spot for someone else to find. Puente students were stationed at the library’s loft, where they cleaned and organized books.

These students showed their dedication by attending a school organized event on a non-student day. Two freshmen, Adylene Duque, and Brandi Hoxworth shared their thoughts about the importance of giving back to the community: “Some people have to step up… the world has given you so much, why not give back?”

With upperclassmen and staff should motivating younger students to get involved in their community we will continue to have active citizens in our city.
